Have you ever tried bubble tea? It's delicious! For those of you who haven't had a chance to try it yet, Cafe Barnabas in Topeka's Fairlawn Plaza offers this amazing drink. They even have a discount for anyone with a high school or college i.d.
Cafe Barnabas is a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit, that strives to provide a safe place where youth workers, youth pastors, and community development coordinators connect with people for the purpose of mentorship, skills development, and community transformation. Other people are more than welcome to sit down and order a tea, or take it to go. It is ran by friendly volunteers and staff. Young people have opportunities to help manage both mobile stations and to gain experience in the Fairlawn store.
Youth workers in Topeka and the surrounding area face challenges with connecting with youth. Cafe Barnabas wants to combat this by setting up mobile shops in the vicinity. This will provide youth works with resources and an inviting environment to develop relationships with students in smaller communities.Cafe Barnabas has collaborated with Harvesters by providing food to people, especially seeking to provide food for rural areas which don't have many resources.
The shop was founded in 2012 by Kevin and Debbie Christiansen, who are involved in Urban Ministry. Both have experience with the art and science of tea infusion and other tea related knowledge. There is also an experienced and effective executive board.
Their drinks include: Bubble Tea, Chi Tea, and Thai Tea. They also have snacks and other drinks. Try them out soon!
